E-2 Intimation Form
The E-2 Intimation Form is the prescribed notice that a Maharashtra co-operative housing society with more than 200 members must send to the Co-operative Election Authority six months before its Managing Committee's term expires, to trigger the election process.
What is E-2 Intimation Form?
E-2 is the starting gun for a housing society election. Societies with more than 200 members must file this form with the District, Taluka, or Ward Co-operative Election Officer exactly six months before the committee's five-year term ends. The form notifies the Election Authority that an election is due and requests assignment of a Returning Officer.
The form includes: society registration number, society name, current committee composition, date of last election, and expected date of term expiry. Once filed, the Election Authority puts the society on its election calendar.
Why it matters
Filing E-2 on time is the committee's single most important election-related obligation. Failure to file means the election process is not initiated, the term lapses without a valid election, and the Registrar can declare the society in default under Section 77A.
The six-month window also gives the Election Authority time to schedule a Returning Officer and an election date, especially in busy districts where many elections may be queued. Late filing risks the election not completing before term expiry.
Legal & regulatory context
The E-2 filing requirement comes from the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Election to Committee) Rules, framed under Section 73-CB. The specific form and filing window are prescribed by the State Co-operative Election Authority.
Smaller societies (fewer than 200 members) may follow a simplified procedure through the Ward Election Officer, but must still inform the authority before term expiry.
How SocietyBee handles it
SocietyBee does not file E-2 automatically, but the platform tracks the society's committee term and can send the secretary a reminder alert when the six-month filing window opens. The current membership count needed to determine the correct slab under bye-law 114 is always available in the member register.

What is the exact deadline for filing E-2?
Six months before the current committee's term expires. For example, if the committee's term ends on December 31, E-2 must be filed by June 30 of the same year.
Who signs and files the E-2 Intimation Form?
The Secretary of the Managing Committee signs and files E-2 on behalf of the society. The Chairman typically countersigns.
